Riou Leads European surfers in Round 1 of ASP 6-Star O’Neill CWC New Zealand
CAPBRETON, France (Wednesday, March, 23, 2011) – The ASP World Tour 6-Star O’Neill Cold Water Classic (CWC) New Zeland kicked-off yesterday in Gisborne, on New Zealand’s North Island. ASP European surfers Patrick Beven (Hossegor, FRA) and Alain Riou (Tahiti, PYF) have already surfed respectively taking 3rd and 2nd places in their Round 1 heats, the Tahitian stylish athlete now into Round 2 of competition where he will face defending O’Neill CWC Series Champion Shaun Cansdell (New South Wales, AUS).
Amongst the European team are former ASP European champions Joan Duru (Ondres, FRA) and Aritz Aranburu (Zarautz, EUK), reigning ASP European champion Marc Lacomare (Hossegor, FRA), former ASP Elite member Marlon Lipke (Algarve, DEU) and long time solid ASP Star Series athlete Gony Zubizarreta (Vigo, ESP). They will all be up and ready for the 7.30 AM call for the remaining heats of Round 1 to get their 2011 Cold Water Classic campaign underway, the best way possible.
With consistent swells on the horizon and another typical adventure-style mobile event, the ASP 6-Star O’Neill CWC New Zealand is on for an exciting show.
